Allison Stokke and Alyce Caron
Allison Stokke, born in Newport Beach in March 1989 is one of America's most renowned and richest Pole Vaulters. A photo of Stokke competing in an age-appropriate track meet went viral, and she was hailed as a pole-vaulter. She has gained a huge popularity on social networks like Instagram as well as Twitter. Her name is well-known as a track and fields athlete, as is Jessica Ennis Hill. The Los Angeles Times, among other newspapers, reported that Stokke has not aspired to or endorsed this kind of attention. Brett Hutchins and David Rowe in their book Technology Power and Culture in the Network Society Brett Hutchins and David Rowe compared Stokke to those of American women soccer stars Alex Morgan and Hope Solo who were sexually portrayed and made fetishized by the media with a style which the authors believed was demeaning to their athletic achievements. In relation to Stokke they also observed that social media comments were frequently insulting in nature and attributed the process of sexualization on women. A lot of people drew comparisons to Brandi's victory celebration at the FIFA World Cup Final 1999 sporting a t-shirt that she wore to the sport. Sports events for women were frequently snubbed by the debate over their appearance. Photographs of Stokke who was competing at the 2007 World Cup in New York early 2007, were published on the internet by an Californian journalist who was working on a track and field website. With Leather, an online sports magazine with many male readers, commented about Stokke's beauty during the May month. The story was entitled Pole Vaulting: Sexy and barely legal. Matt Ufford had threatened to sue the photographer for not removing the image. However, the news story had well-known and received much attention.
